A huge thank you for the engagement and passion you’ve shown so far this year. We’ve had a lot going on since the start of the official season, and the momentum is growing. We had great support at the Anchor Auction and are excited to continue some of our key programs, including additional scholarships for Learn To Play nominees.
We’ve also had some changes to the board. Nate Gallery has stepped down, although he still plans to stay active as a participant. We are grateful for the key role Nate played in establishing this foundation and wish him the best.
At the same time, we are excited to add our newest board member, Greg Savage. Greg grew up in California and enlisted in the U.S. Navy right out of high school. He served from 1990-1996 primarily aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) as a Data Systems Technician for combat and intelligence systems where he completed two deployments to the Persian Gulf. His enlistment ended when the ship was stationed at Bremerton Naval Shipyard, which is how he ended up in Washington.
Greg has worked in the technology industry in various capacities for 20+ years, but recently joined his wife, Jennifer, in their HR consulting business. They have been married for 25 years and have three children, Daniel – business major at WSU, John – commercial refrigeration tech, and Abigail – Sophomore in high school.
Besides coaching his children in various non-hockey sports, Greg was a volunteer firefighter for 5 years with Lake Wenatchee Fire & Rescue and has been a long-time volunteer with Cascade Prison Ministry at Monroe Correctional Complex.
Greg didn’t start following hockey until the Sharks came to San Jose in 1991, but he was immediately hooked. Greg started hockey later in life but is a passionate fan who now plays multiple times a week.
Please congratulate Greg the next time you see him on the ice.
Next event is almost upon us!
The Winthrop tournament starts Monday next week, Dec 18th at noon, followed by the evening game at 21:00, and the final game at 12:00 on Dec 19th. Still a few spots left, and if you’ve never played in Winthrop, it’s the most iconic rink in the state. For those that grew up playing hockey outdoors on the frozen lakes and ponds, it’s the only place in Washington that can capture that magic. Plus, we have to show those Coasties us old vets still got it! Space is still available, so sign up on the websiteand don't miss this special experience.
After Winthrop, we are hosting our inaugural version of the Winter Classic, playing against our sister veteran’s org out of Vegas. Early registration notices for members has already gone out, and more information will follow as we get closer to the date. We are also planning a Meet N Greet event with Vegas at Angry Beaver Dec 27th at 16:00, and then we will play our newest rivals at KCI on Dec 28th at 5:30pm. Let’s pack the Starbucks rink and make Vegas know we mean business. Watch the website for more information.
Finally, our first round of jerseys are in! We are working on a plan to both get the jerseys to the first wave, and also get the next wave in queue for production and distribution. If you have a jersey coming from the first order and are attending one of the above events, we will make sure to bring it to you, and if you are not, we will find an alternative way to get them to you.
It’s an exciting December close to 2023, and is setting us up for an even more impactful 2024. We look forward to seeing all of you at as many events as you can make, and hope you have a fantastic holiday season.
